It compares the cost of items Americans purchase every day with an insurance quote for a 40-year-old woman living in Texas. Her cost for basic preventive dental insurance is $13.56 a month, or $162.72 for a year. IHC argues that, compared to the amount of money Americans spend annually on entertainment and extraneous (and harmful) food items such as soda, dental insurance is barely a blip in the radar.
